Karunanidhi lauds Kamal, Jackie Chan at function

CHENNAI : When 'Mr Nice Guy' lands inChennai, even the chief minister is swept off his feet. Jackie Chan, the chiefguest at the audio launch of Kamal Hassan's 'Dasavatharam', received such astanding ovation from the crowd at Nehru Indoor Stadium on Friday thatKarunanidhi expressed his amazement. "Jackie Chan and Kamal both were cheeredequally by fans,'' he marveled and did a quick comparison of theirlives.

Chan, who kept cheering and smiling at every turn through theevening, had the crowd on its feet when he declared himself a fan of KamalHassan. "One day we should work together,'' he said, a promise that Kamal heldhim to, when he spoke later.
The evening was also a lesson inetiquette as all the big stars, Amitabh Bachchan, Mammooty, Hema Malini all paidrich tributes to each other. Asin, heroine of Dasavatharam received special applausefor her chaste Tamil. Mallika Sherawat, who has a role in the film turnedhonorary assisstant to Chan when hespoke.

Dasavatharam ,produced by Oscar Ravichandran, has been two years in the making.
Earlier, fans of Jackie Chan and Kamal Hasan thronged the roadsleading up to the Stadium. There were allegations of lathi-charge bypolice.

A number of media persons, who arrived late had to arguetheir way into the stadium. A delegation of 50 mediapersons from Mumbai wereallegedly manhandled by the police and denied entry into the stadium. A tradeexpert from South India said, "the chaos was more because of Jackie Chan'spresence as he has a tremendous fan following in Tamil Nadu."
